Museum visitors hold up phones and cameras, crowding around the exhibits and obscuring the view.

About the Work

A museum invites quiet attention to the objects on display. Here, however, a crowd presses against the glass, phones held aloft, blocking one another’s view—and obscuring the very artefacts they have come to see.

Visitors must search for glimpses of the collection through gaps between bodies. An ordinary museum visit becomes a kind of treasure hunt.

Through this visual irony, the cartoon reflects on how we behave in shared cultural spaces, and how our desire to capture an experience can get in the way of seeing it.
